Two new exhibits feature paintings, photographs of
16th President and his monuments
Springfield, IL — Images of Abraham Lincoln by two Illinois artists are featured in temporary exhibits that will open around Lincoln's 200th birthday at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.
"The Lincoln Project" by Chicago artist Don Pollack will be displayed February 8 through May 17 in the Presidential Museum's Illinois Gallery. "The Lincoln Project" is a series of contemporary paintings highlighting the life of Abraham Lincoln, and includes painted landscapes, portraits, maps, and documents. Pollack is interested in how photography and painting affect the recording of history and impact our personal and collective memory. "The Lincoln Project" serves as a personal narrative of the 16th President and reveals his complexity. Paid Museum admission is required to view Pollack's work. The artist will meet visitors in the gallery from noon to 3 p.m. on opening day, Sunday, February 8.
"Lincoln in Illinois" is a series of black and white photographs by Chicago artist Ron Schramm that will be exhibited at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library from February 11 through September 30. "Lincoln in Illinois" uses images from the book of the same name, and captures all Abraham Lincoln statues in Illinois, both traditional and non-traditional depictions. The book offers a 200 word essay with each photo from Lincoln scholars and selected authors. "Lincoln in Illinois" may be viewed free of charge in the Presidential Library.
These two exhibits are part of the Presidential Library and Museum's observance of the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial. For more information, visit www.presidentlincoln.org or www.lincoln200.net.
